I know I’m pretty food-focused here at Kandice Lee Fired Up, but food isn’t really my focus. Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE food!! – but what I’m really concerned with is full-body health, self-care and self-love.
I spent so long struggling with crippling migraines and weight issues. I discovered that the food I put into my body and the time I took to plan and prepare it was a radical form of self-care. Once I discovered this, I knew I had to share it with the world.
That focus on self-care and self-love has led me many places, but one of the most beneficial has been to embrace the definition of nourishment in all its forms.
Nourish the body. Nourish the mind. Nourish the soul.
That’s what led me to seek out retreats. Since 2017, I have been on a number of retreats. Often, they are three-days, but I’ve been on retreats as short as one day. They have all been transformational experiences for me.
One of the main rules or guidelines of these retreats is to put away your phone. The amazing leaders who run them want you to be able to truly detach from the outside world, and to do that you need to let go of the distraction.
Admittedly, the first time this was asked of me I thought, ‘Sure you can have the phone. I don’t need to get on Facebook or Instagram, but what do I do about my music, my camera, and my books?’ Seriously, can you hear the excuses for my addiction to my phone!?
I soon realized by detaching I was able to sleep easier and allow my mind, body, and spirit to just let go of the to-do list. This is a habit I now attempt to accomplish at least a few times a week.
Surrounded by like-minded, heart-centred individuals who are all looking to learn, recharge, create and focus on their purpose is truly inspiring and magical!
The first lesson these retreats taught me to un-learn was to not hold back – to take part in the transformational journey you are on.
I needed to let go of the control. To let go of judgment. To let go of shame.
In its place, I needed to embrace love. Embrace my purpose. Embrace my voice.
I know that at each retreat I have transformed, opening myself up for even greater guidance which continues to lead me to more – much more!

The final major lesson I have taken from these retreats is that we each have information we can share with others to be of service.
There is something we can all learn from each other and there is something we all have to teach.
Each of us in an expert in something, even if that expertise is simply in being ourselves and living our life.
We each have a voice.
A big part of that lesson, for me, was to learn to let go of being perfect and always being on. The idea that what I wanted to do wasn’t perfect – that I wasn’t perfect – was holding me back from sharing my passion with people who could benefit from it as much as I did.
I also had to learn to let go of the idea that I had to do it all myself. I had to learn to allow others to help me and to ask for help when I needed it.
